Tis the Season…for Checklists!

As the holidays approach, we all have lists to check. Gifts to buy. Guests to invite. Food to prepare. Heck, even Santa is checking his naughty or nice list.

You may not think one more list is necessary, but consider your employees. They have a whole host of “to do’s” to complete in the next couple months. Why not make it easy on them by preparing a simple end-of-year checklist to follow?

Ideas for an employee end-of-year checklist
Before end of year

  • Make sure your home address is correct in the self-service system
  • Consent to electronic delivery of your W2
  • Use up your 2014 FSA dollars
  • Complete your wellness activities to earn rewards
  • Watch for new ID cards
  • If changing prescription vendors: get refills done now, download the formulary for the new plan to give to your doctor

Starting in January

  • If changing medical vendors: check to ensure your doctor is in the new network, show your new ID to providers to ensure your claims are processed correctly
  • Check your first pay stub to make sure withholding amounts are correct
  • If applicable, check to make sure your HSA contribution was made
  • Schedule a performance review meeting with your manager
  • Review your 401(k) contributions
  • Review how to download or request duplicate W2s

The list above is just a few ideas to get you started. Consider the 2015 changes for your organization, then create an easy-to-follow checklist for your employees. It’s a small gift your employees will appreciate. Plus, it just might earn you a spot on Santa’s “nice” list!
